contemporary office space in an historic shell

Client: 3CDC (Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation), CSO (Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra)

CSO’s offices in Cincinnati Music Hall needed a complete redesign to accommodate more staff, make operations more efficient, and introduce natural light to what was once a windowless, low space in the depths of Music Hall’s South Hall. The CSO also wished to improve office collaboration, provide better connection between different departments, and add contemporary office amenities. All of this needed to fit in the existing historic building footprint.

To solve the space problem, PWWG inserted a new mezzanine to nearly double the area of the existing offices. This open mezzanine creates a dynamic, layered working environment. The open office plan co-locates teams in mini-environments that support a variety of work needs from collaborative and learning, to privacy and focus. The floorplan also facilitates cross-functional communication and provides excellent access to new office amenities and back-of-house spaces. The aesthetic is modern and bright, with new office furnishings side by side with the bones of the existing historic structure.
